Chia seed Slurry recipe

Chia seed is one of the most nutritionally dense foods available today, and there are literally hundreds of ways that it can be cooked, prepared, and served as part of a meal, a beverage, or some tasty treat. One of the major advantages of the chia seed is that it is completely wheat and gluten free, which makes it safe to consume for people suffering from celiac disease or have a gluten allergy, providing them with much needed nutrition they’d be unable to get elsewhere.

One of the easiest ways to turn chia seed to a beverage or recipe is a by making something called chia slurry. This thick, smooth, delicious, and nutrition packed concoction is all natural, with very little fat and sugar content. It’s also a recipe flexible enough to allow for personal tastes and variations. Chia slurry can be used as a thickener in beverages and a binding agent in recipes that would usually require some flour based ingredient. Using chia slurry as a binder allows you to cook a lot more gluten free dishes, significantly expanding the menu for sufferers of celiac disease.

The first step towards making the slurry is to let the seeds soak in water for about half an hour. The normal ratio is about 2 tablespoons of seed for every cup of water. You can vary the amount of seed used to make the mixture as thin or as thick as you like. As time passes, you’ll be able to see the tiny chia seeds expand as they absorb up to ten times their weight in water. At this point, they’ll look like fuzzy little wads of tapioca, and are now ready for the next step. The seeds can be stored suspended in the water for up to a week in a refrigerated airtight container. This gives you the added convenience of preparing plenty of these presoaked seeds for future use.

After allowing the seeds to soak up the water, place the entire mixture into a blender and add any other ingredients you wish to include into the smoothie. A little water, milk, or bits of other fruit can add some flavor and variety and adjust the thickness of the mixture. Then simply turn on your blender until the entire brew reaches a thick and smooth consistency. For best result, it is recommended that you use this chia slurry immediately after making it. If you need to make plenty of it in advance, a good way to store it while keeping it fresh would be by freezing it. You can pour the slurry onto empty ice trays to make some chia seed ice slurry cubes. This preserves the chia slurry for later use in all sorts of different recipes. It can be added to drinks to impart flavor, texture, and a creamy smoothness. They’re a great way to jazz up any drink while supercharging it with nutrition. And they can be made simply without any fuss.
